Terminal details: The nc variant listed above is a terminal-based game. To play it, open a terminal and run the above command. The nc part refers to the netcat program. If you don't have this program, you may be able to use something similar to it.

Also note that this will not encrypt any of your traffic. Send your bytes at your own risk!

The Premise of the Game

BORNHACK ADVENTURE is a text adventure game in which you take the role of a hacker who has just arrived at BornHack. Feel free to imagine that you are actually playing yourself, although note that this can result in narrative oddities if you meet the virtual version of yourself or your friends.

The goal of BORNHACK ADVENTURE is the same as BornHack itself: walk around, explore, talk to people, do things, and have fun. In contrast to classic text adventure games, there is no single overarching plot (except "BornHack is happening") and no real end, except when you have seen or done everything there is to see or do. The following is a nonexhaustive list of things you can consider doing:

• Get your wristband by registering at the info booth.
• Participate in Hacker Jeopardy.
• Cater to a hackers' every need.
• Collect a strangely large number of misplaced dictionaries.
• Gather up trash and putting it in appropriate receptables.
• Misunderstand what kind of game this is and go around attacking everything.

How to Play the Game

You play by giving commands such as north, west, get computer, and examine toilet. Try also the help command.

Here are some commonly used verbs which you can try out:

look, examine, take, drop, inventory, quest log, talk, ask, enter, exit, drink, buy, wait, give, attack, empty

Or, with fewer letters in some cases:

l, x, get, drop, i, log, talk, ask, enter, exit, drink, buy, wait, give, attack, empty

If you would like to use an object, but you're not sure which verb applies, try to use it.

Good things to ask people

BORNHACK ADVENTURE contains many interesting cyber-hackers. Here are good topics to ask them if you want to explore the virtual hacker camp. Not all may have something interesting to say, but some may lead you on exciting quests. Use the command ask hacker about topic. You can of course also just ask them about the stuff that surrounds them, and usually they will have something to say.
